Job Opening for Child and Youth Program Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

35-40 hours a week- flexible schedule required

The Child and Youth Program Coordinator provides leadership in the development, coordination, and delivery of grief support services for children and youth. This role combines direct support, program development, volunteer collaboration, and community relationship building to ensure grief support aligned with the mission and values of Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.

Core Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Development

  • Lead the development and coordination of the Child and Youth Grief Support Program
  • Ensure Children & Youth services are integrated with Adult Grief, Palliative, and Volunteer programs
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and staff to guide program growth and responsiveness to community needs
  • Participate in delivery of Children & Youth content for Hospice volunteer training and education opportunities

Intake, Assessment, and Direct Support

  • Facilitate intakes with parents/guardians and assess children and youth for appropriate individual and group participation, ensuring consent, documentation, and follow-up
  • Provide individual grief support and facilitate grief support groups for children and youth
  • Maintain organized program records including referrals, participation, and evaluation

Volunteer Engagement

  • Ongoing collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator around recruitment, engagement, support and training of volunteers participating in Children & Youth programming
    • Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers providing grief support

Community Outreach and School Relationships

  • Provide education and outreach to schools and community organizations to increase awareness of children’s grief and available supports
  • Liaising and building relationships with local school counsellors and teachers to strengthen collaboration and access for grieving children and youth

Reporting and Organizational Participation

  • Maintain, evaluate, and report program information to the Executive Director for board meetings and provide an annual program report
  • Represent the Society in all communications in a professional, respectful, and timely manner
  • Participate in staff meetings, program events, and training as required
  • Understand the hospice philosophy and range of services offered by the Society
  • Refer clients to other community resources and supports when appropriate

What You Will Bring to the Role

  • Relevant professional degree and/or comparable education and experience in child and youth care
  • Education and experience in grief, loss, death, and dying
  • Experience supporting children and youth in both individual and group settings
  • Ability to build strong relationships with community partners, staff, and volunteers
  • Understanding of expressive arts, play-based, or comparable modalities in supporting children and youth
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Proficiency with email, presentations, remote meeting platforms, and social media
  • Availability to accommodate after school, evening, and weekend programming
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check
